Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
The Grand Rapids Rampage selected three players in this afternoon's 2004 Arena Football League Expansion Draft, including a pass-blocking lineman, a veteran AFL quarterback and a speedy WR/DB.
The Rampage received the three selections after trading OL/DL Corey Mayfield to the expansion Philadelphia Soul. With their first selection (fifth overall), the Rampage took offensive/defensive lineman Chris Polinder, who was a member of the Colorado Crush last season and did not allow a sack all season. In 2001, he played with the Detroit Fury.
"Chris is a good offensive guy," said Rampage Head Coach Bob Cortese. "He's good at protecting the quarterback and has great feet."
With their second selection, Grand Rapids took Columbus QB Tim Carey. Carey played in five games last season with the Destroyers tossing eight touchdowns before a groin injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He's also played with the New England SeaWolves and Chicago Rush.
"Tim has Arena experience and since we have only one QB under contract right now, we hope that he can flourish in this system and compete for a starting job," said Cortese.
With their final selection, the Rampage selected Dallas WR/DB Brian Hinton, who has spent time in the NFL, CFL, XFL and last season with the Desperados.
"We were surprised he was still there," said Cortese. "He's a speed guy, who is a good DB that made himself into a receiver. He was too good not to pick up."
