Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Philadelphia Phillies have assigned RHP Kyle Drabek to the Williamsport Crosscutters.

Drabek was the Phillies 1st round draft choice (18th overall) in 2006 and is the son of former Cy Young Award winner Doug Drabek. Drafted out of high school (The Woodlands, TX), he was 10-0 his senior year with a 1.18 ERA in 10 starts. That season he allowed just 34 hits in 65 innings and struck out 112. His overall record in high school was 30-1.

Ranked by Baseball America as the Phillies #5 Prospect, Drabek went 5-1 with Class A Lakewood in 2007 until an arm injury ended his season on June 15 of that year. He underwent Tommy John surgery a short time later and has been rehabbing ever since.

Prior to joining Williamsport Drabek made 4 starts with the Phillies Gulf Coast League Club (Rookie) going 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA.

He is slated to start Thursday night's game in Auburn. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio Williamsport (104.1FM & 1050AM). He is expected to be a part of the Cutters starting rotation for the remainder of the '08 season.
