Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
The Pippins offense exploded on Thursday for the most runs they had scored in any game this season, beating the Gresham GreyWolves 21-5.
For the second straight night, the GreyWolves grabbed an early 2-0 lead, with Todd Jackson and Austin Hamilton driving in runs.
The Pippins answered right back in the bottom half of the inning. After three straight singles loaded the bases, Kyle Dean crushed an 0-1 pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam. It was the second straight night that the Pippins had a grand slam with Tyler Lasch hitting one in the opener of the series.
With Hunter French on the mound in the third inning, Gresham retook the lead 5-4 with help from the Pippins defense. With two on and two out, an error on Cody Jefferis allowed a run to come in to score and extend the inning. Hunter Holmanson knocked in two with a single to take the lead.
In the fourth, the Pippins offense exploded for eight runs with RBI's from Lasch, Bryce Wooldridge , Jefferis and Cole Pofek .
The Pippins continued to build their lead against the Gresham bullpen, scoring four runs in the sixth and five more runs in the seventh and batting around in both innings. Dean would drive in three runs in those two innings with two of his three doubles.
After the top of the eighth, the game was called as Gresham forfeited. The 21 runs scored by the Pippins is the most they have scored in any game this season.
Dean would go 4-5 with the grand slam and seven RBI, while Wooldridge and Tyler Hollow each had three hit days.
The Pippins head back out on the road to Cowlitz to begin the final stretch of the season. The first game of the series is on Friday with first pitch at 6:35.
