Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, Wis. - On Thursday night at Warner Park, the Madison Mallards (25-7) cruised to a 5-0 win over the Wisconsin Woodchucks (8-22) on the back of a spectacular start by Illinois righty Ryan Kutt. Kutt held the Woodchucks to just one hit and no runs while the Mallards offense scattered five runs across five separate innings. With the Kalamazoo Growlers falling to the Rockford Rivets tonight, the Mallards now sit 3.0 games up in the South Division with five games left in the first half.

Turning Point

Madison starter Ryan Kutt absolutely dominated the game in the early going, holding the Woodchucks hitless into the fifth inning. Kutt's most dominant stretch spanned the second inning until the fourth. Kutt picked up five strikeouts and allowed only one man to reach on a walk during the three-inning span. Meanwhile, the Mallards picked up runs in the second and fourth on a solo home run by David Vinsky and a single by Garrett Kueber.

In the seventh inning with the Mallards leading 3-0, Kutt still had plenty of gas left. The righty worked a quick 1-2-3 inning to finish his scoreless outing, finalizing his line with 7.0 innings pitched, one hit, one walk and seven strikeouts.
