Green Bay, WI. - In the first day-night doubleheader of the summer against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (17-12), the Green Bay Bullfrogs (11-19) dropped the first game earlier this afternoon by a score of 4-2, but grabbed the 5-0 victory in the night cap. With the game two triumph, the Frogs secure their first win versus Fond du Lac and the second shut-out victory of the season.
Game 1 Recap
The Dock Spiders jumped out to the early lead in the first inning and never looked back. A two-out RBI single by Cole Zabowski put Fond du Lac in front 1-0. The Spiders compiled four straight hits with one out in the third inning including a two-run single to extend the lead out to 3-0. Fond du Lac added one more run in the fourth to make it a 4-0 contest.
Green Bay's bats came alive in the sixth inning as a single from Adrian Damla (Sophomore, UC Irvine) and double by Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.) put runners at second and third base with nobody out. Rudy Aguilar (Sophomore, St. Johns) then poked a two-run single down the right field line to cut the deficit in half at 4-2. The Bullfrogs were held scoreless for the final three offensive frames despite having the bases loaded with no outs in the seventh inning.
Eddy Gonzalez (Junior, Incarnate Word) continues to remain hot at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 to lead the Bullfrogs offense. Damla went 2-for-5 with one run scored. Aguilar and Alejandro Gonzalez (Freshman, Hillsborough CC) each contributed a 2-for-4 effort.
Fond du Lac starting pitcher Austin Wagner earned the win, improving to 3-1. Green Bay starter Justin Bureau (Senior, Ave Maria Univ.) took the loss, falling to 0-2. Dock Spiders reliever Zach Bryant notched his fourth save of the season.
Game 2 Recap
Green Bay opened the offensive floodgates early on Fond du Lac starter Ben Probst with five hits in the first inning to grab an early 4-0 advantage. The surge began with a two-run double by Damla to stretch his current hit streak out to eight games and make it a 2-0 Bullfrogs lead. Blake Nelson (Junior, Univ. of Michigan) then tallied a RBI single to push the margin out to 3-0, while Mihalik's RBI ground out completed the inning to make it 4-0.
The Frogs only scored on other time in the fifth inning on run-scoring single by Eddy Gonzalez to stretch the deficit out to 5-0.
