Kruczysnki Brilliant as Cardinals Beat Division-Leading Travs
May 14, 2019 - Texas League (TL1)
Springfield Cardinals News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Springfield Cardinals (16-21) have won seven of their last eight games after a 4-1 win over the division-leading Arkansas Travelers (22-13) on Monday night at Hammons Field.
DECISIONS:
W: LHP Evan Kruczynski (2-3)
L: RHP Darren McCaughan (2-3)
S: RHP Merandy Gonzalez (1)
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
- The Cardinals delivered for Kruczysnki in the fifth when CF Dylan Carlson ripped a bases-clearing three-run triple to the corner in right that put Springfield up 3-1.
- Kruczynski was tagged for a solo home run by Chris Mariscal in the second inning that put the Travelers up 1-0. That would be the only Arkansas hit off Kruczysnki until the eighth inning, when the Travelers managed one more.
NOTABLES:
- Kruczynski pitched 7.0+ two-hit innings, allowing just one run and three walks to nine strikeouts. The big lefty has allowed only three total runs in his last three starts (18.0 IP), striking out 17 over that stretch.
- Carlson's triple was his third three-bagger of the season, matching his career high in the category after just 35 games. It's the third time this year he's finished a game with three RBIs.
- Cardinals 1B Chris Chinea (2-for-4) and C Brian O'Keefe (2-for-3) joined Carlson (2-for-4) with multi-hit games. O'Keefe drove home Springfield's fourth run on a sixth-inning sacrifice fly.
WHAT'S ON DECK:
The Cardinals host the Travelers on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the second game of this three-game series. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday is a Great Southern Bank $1 Dog Day at the ballpark.
