Springfield Cardinals News Release
Corpus Christi, TX - LHP Evan Kruczynski continued his incredible start to his Double-A career, twirling 7.0 shutout innings to lead the Springfield Cardinals to the 7-0 win against the Corpus Christi Hooks before 5,126 fans at Whataburger Field on Friday night. Winners of three of their four games on the Texas leg of the trip, the Cardinals are 16-10 in their last 26 games overall.
Kruczynski (W, 2-1) dominated the Hooks lineup through 7.0 scoreless frames, allowing just four hits with no walks and five strikeouts, allowing only one man to reach third base. It marked the third straight 7.0-inning start for Kruczynski, who has allowed just one run in 21.0 total frames in the Texas League for a 0.43 ERA.
Kruczynski and Hooks LHP Brett Adcock (L, 1-1) alternated three scoreless innings to start, before the Cardinals (21-27, 54-64) swung in front in the top of the fourth.
The Cardinals added to the lead in the top of the seventh. With two on and two away, SS Tommy Edman clobbered a three-run blast inside the right field line, part of a three-hit and three-RBI night for the leadoff man, making it 5-0.
Springfield kept swinging in the eighth. A one-out single from 2B Andy Young sparked the charge, followed quickly by an RBI double to center field from LF Johan Mieses. Mieses then came home on an RBI double from Martinez, who also had three hits and three RBIs, opening the Cardinals lead to 7-0.
After Kruczynski's 7.0 scoreless frames, RHP Hector Mendoza and RHP Ramon Santos each logged a perfect relief inning to close the 7-0 shutout win for Springfield.
