Keene Swamp Bats News Release
After falling to North Adams just the previous night, the Swamp Bats got their revenge against the Steeple Cats on Sunday night, defeating their Western Division rivals 5-3.
The Swamp Bats got a fantastic start from Nick Kozlowski. The right-hander out of Hofstra University went six very impressive innings, surrendering only one run on just four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
The offense also had a nice night, picking up all five of their runs in the fourth inning. Hofstra's Matt Ford got things started with a leadoff walk and following the walk, JP Sportman, Central Connecticut State University, knocked a single into right field.
Then the Swamp Bats started the scoring, first with an RBI single from Texas Tech's Eric Gutierrez. Tommy Monnot, out of Kent State University, then followed suit with an RBI single of his own, and with men on second and third, the University of Georgia's Daniel Nichols smacked an RBI double to make the score 4-0.
Keene weren't finished quite yet though as Hofstra's Robbie Cafiero also contributed with an RBI single.
Jordan Simons replaced Kozlowski in the seventh and ran into a bit of trouble, allowing two runs to make it a 5-3 game.
But Joe McCarthy and James Connell came on in the eighth and ninth innings and shut the door in North Adams to give the Swamp Bats the 5-3 victory, earning Connell his third save of the season.
The win gets Keene back on track after seeing their six game winning streak snapped last night and moves their record to 12-13. The Swamp Bats will welcome the Saratoga Brigade to Alumni Field for a double header. The first game is set for a 5:00 p.m. first pitch.
