Ocean State Waves News Release

WAKEFIELD, R.I. - Evan Ocello hit a pair of home runs and Ocean State hit four as a team as it eased past Mystic, 10-0, on Sunday night at Old Mountain Field.

The victory snapped a two-game losing skid for the Waves (17-12) and pushed them a game ahead of the Schooners (15-12) in the East Division standings. The two teams will meet twice more this week.

Ocello wasted little time giving the Waves as he led off the game by launching a 1-1 pitch over the center field fence for his first home run of the season. Two innings later, Ocello did it again as he lined a 3-2 pitch to the exact same spot in center for his second home run of the game.

The home run sparked a big inning for Ocean State as it sent 11 men to the plate and scored five runs. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases with one out and Pat Quinn delivered a two-run double down the right field line to make it 4-0. Dalton DiNatale followed with an RBI single of his own and a wild pitch scored the final run of the inning to make it 6-0.

Another long ball helped the Waves extend their lead to eight runs in the fourth. Mike Gerber started the inning with a single and Caden Bailey then hammered a two-run home run to right-center. Bailey has now hit a home run in each of his last three games and leads the team with 20 RBI.

Ocean State continued to score as it plated single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, DiNatale led off with a monstrous solo home run to right-center, his first of the summer. In the sixth, Shaun McGraw and Bailey singled and Nick Sebastian delivered an RBI single through the left side to make it 10-0.

All of the run support overshadowed another solid outing from Daniel Ludwig. The left-hander from Belmont worked six innings, allowing no runs on just four hits. Ludwig walked one and struck out three. For the second-straight start, he showcased his ability to get ground balls as he retired nine batters on ground outs. Ludwig recorded two ground outs in each of the first four innings before inducing an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play in the fifth. Matt Cook took over in the seventh, tossing two scoreless innings. Nick Cooney tossed a scoreless ninth to finish off the Waves' first shutout of the season.

Ocello and Bailey both finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, DiNatale had two hits and two RBI and Gerber had two hits and two runs scored.

The Waves will head on the road Monday to face Holyoke in a makeup game of an originally scheduled June 6 meeting. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
