Kansas City Outlaws News Release

(Kansas City, MO --- December 7, 2004) – The Fort Wayne Komets continued their hot streak with a 6-1 victory over the Kansas City Outlaws tonight at Kemper Arena. The Komets win ties them with the Rockford IceHogs for first place in the Western Division. This was the Komets sixth straight victory. The Outlaws two-game home winning streak was snapped in their fourth of nine game home-stand; however, they still have a positive home record at 5-3.

Kansas City continued their recent trend of being out-shot by opponents. The Komets had almost a 2-1 ratio of shots on goal despite goalie Maxime Gingras' best efforts. The Outlaws got on the board in the second period after a persistent effort of shots and rebounds with an eventual power play goal by Vaclav Zavoral. The Outlaws were unable to maintain their momentum after giving up a goal four minutes later in the second period by defenseman Rob Guinn. The Komets closed out the game scoring three unanswered goals to seal the victory.

Tonight marked the first game since rookie defensemen Jason Kean was named Sherwood UHL Player of the Week and goalie Kevin St. Pierre was named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week. Although St. Pierre had the night off and took a seat to goalie Tyler Masters. Kean was rather quiet with only one shot on goal.

It was a sour return to Kansas City for Komets center and former Blade Colin Chaulk. Chaulk, who is second in the UHL in points, was pinned down during a fight with Outlaw left winger Jason Ruff. Ruff had taken enough of Chaulk's bullying around the ice, and the two threw punches before Ruff pinned Chaulk down on the ice to the crowd's approval.

The middle of the second period witnessed a loss of power at Kemper Arena. According to officials at Kansas City Power and Light, the switch gear that is responsible for a section of the West Bottoms electrically failed, which resulted in the loss of power. The delay lasted for less than 30 minutes and hockey was resumed immediately without further interruption.

Outlaws face in-state rival Missouri River Otters on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Ticket plans for the Outlaws, ranging from $10 to $13.50 per game, are on sale now at (816) 268-1600.
