Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets regained their first-place position in the Western Conference of the UHL winning 3 of 4 games played during the week of March 5th including a 3-1 victory over conference rival Rockford Sunday in a battle for the top spot in the West.

Sunday's 3-1 win over Rockford moved the Komets 2 points ahead of the 2nd place Hogs as Fort Wayne improved to 41-20-3 on the season with 14 games remaining.

The week started with a 2-1 shootout win over the visiting Quad City Mallards Wednesday night. Friday the Komets escaped Perani Arena in Flint with a 3-2 shootout victory. Saturday the Komets stumbled 2-1 at home to the Bloomington PrairieThunder before recovering at home against Rockford Sunday.

This week the Komets are idle until Friday when they skate at Port Huron at 7:30pm and launch a 3-game weekend. Friday's game will be the 6th and final meeting of the season with the Flags. The Komets lead the series 3-2-0 and will skate the 2nd of 2 games at Port Huron this season. The Komets defeated the Flags 4-3 in a shootout in the last meeting at Port Huron Jan. 5. Port Huron whitewashed the Komets 4-0 March 3rd at Fort Wayne the last encounter between the 2 teams. The Flags finished last week with a 6-5 shootout win at Flint Sunday and skate at Chicago Wednesday before hosting the Komets Friday at McMorran Arena. Port Huron is in a 4-way battle for the final 2 playoff spots and is 9-3-0 in it's last 12 games and 4-1-0 in the last 5.

Saturday the Komets return home to start a double-header weekend by hosting the Rockford IceHogs at 7:30pm. The Komets improved to 5-3-0 against Rockford with last Sunday's home win against the Hogs. Saturday's tilt will be the 9th and final meeting this year. Rockford visits Quad City Wednesday and hosts Kalamazoo Friday before visiting Fort Wayne for St. Patrick's Day Saturday as the battle for bragging rights in the Western Conference continues.

Sunday the Komets complete the weekend with a home match against the league leading Muskegon Fury. Three meetings remain this season with Muskegon and Sunday's game is the 3rd of 4 in Fort Wayne where the series is knotted up 1-1-0. The Komets lead the season series 3-1-0 after taking the last meeting 4-1 at Muskegon Feb. 25. The Fury are 2-4-2 in their last 7 games and posted a 1-1-1 record in 3 games played last week. Muskegon starts a 6-game road tour at Port Huron Wednesday. The Fury travels to Elmira for games Friday and Saturday before arriving in Fort Wayne Sunday for a 5pm faceoff against the Komets.

Leading Komets....center J.C. Ruid continues to lead the Komets with 36 goals, 7 game winning goals (2nd overall in theUHL), and is 2nd overall in the UHL with 76 points.....Guy Dupuis (D) leads with +19, 51 assists (2nd overall in the UHL) and leads all UHL scorers with 31 power play assists.....Mario Larocque tops UHL defensemen with 22 goals and 14 power play goals.....Kevin St. Pierre leads UHL goalies with 35 wins and in minutes with 3208:28.

Join the crowd.....the Komets had 3 home games during the past week averaging 6,521 fans per game and lead the UHL in total attendance with 240,147 after 32 home games for an overall season attendance average of 7,504 with 6 home games remaining. It's the second highest Fort Wayne average attendance during a UHL season after attracting 7,777 in 2003-04. In 297 UHL home games the Komets have attracted 2,050,076 for a per-game average of 6,903 since joining the UHL in 1999.

Special K's.....the Komets penalty kill has been successful on 28 straight kills and has not surrendered a power play goal in 5 straight games. The Komets were 3/20 on the power play for a 15% conversion rate for the week and continue to lead the UHL with an overall power play success rate of 19.4% on the season.

Stingy K's.....the Komets continue to have the stingiest defense in the UHL allowing a league low 157 goals after 64 games. In the 4 games played last week the Komets allowed 6 goals for a team goals-against average of 2.45 overall.
