Komets Open Camp on Season 57

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets opened camp Monday morning on their 57th consecutive season with player physicals followed by a noon press luncheon at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.

Komet head coach and director of player personnel Al Sims will begin camp with a roster of 31 players. Practices will be held at the coliseum and at McMillen Ice Arena during the two-week camp.

There are three preseason tune-ups slated for the Komets, two at home and one on the road. The Komets will host Bloomington in exhibition this Wednesday at 7:30pm at the coliseum. The Komets will have a home-and-home preseason series against Kalamazoo starting Friday night at 7:30 at Wings Stadium followed by a 7:30pm faceoff Saturday in Fort Wayne at the coliseum.

The Komets will begin their defense of the IHL Turner Cup Championship Friday night, Oct. 17 at Port Huron at 7:30pm. The home opener is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7:30pm against the Flint Generals.

The 76-game IHL schedule holds 38 home games and 38 road games for 2008-09. Besides Fort Wayne, the six-member IHL includes the Flint Generals, Kalamazoo Wings, Port Huron IceHawks, Muskegon Lumberjacks and Bloomington PrairieThunder. The league setup will be unchanged from last year with teams competing in the regular season for the IHL's Huber Trophy with the Turner Cup awarded to the playoff champion.

Komet players returning from last year include player/assistant coach Colin Chaulk (C), captain Guy Dupuis (D), Brandon Warner (D), Jake Pence (D), David Hukalo (RW), Kevin Bertram (D), Konstantin Shafranov (LW), P.C. Drouin (LW), Olivier Legault (LW), Mathieu Curadeau (C) and Nick Boucher (G).

Komet home games will continue to start under the same arrangement as last season. Monday thru Thursday and Saturday games will start with a 7:30pm faceoff. Friday games begin at 8pm and Sunday games will faceoff at 5pm. The Komets will continue the tradition of Thanksgiving night home games with a turkey holiday match against Flint. The annually celebrated New Year's Eve game will also be against Flint.

Tickets for all Komet 40 home games, including the two exhibition games, are on sale at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
