
Komets open 2006-07 training camp

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets training camp for 2006-07 opened Monday morning starting with player physicals, a noon press luncheon, and the first official skate of camp scheduled for Monday afternoon from 2:00-5:00 at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
Komet head coach and director of player personnel Pat Bingham will direct his first Komet squad of 29 players through camp in preparation of the season opener at Rockford Friday, Oct. 13. Veteran skater Bruce Richardson, appearing in his first season as a Komet, will serve as player/assistant coach for 2006-07.
The Komets will conduct all camp practices at the Coliseum and have 3 exhibition games on tap. The Komets will host 2 home preseason tilts at the Coliseum. Port Huron visits Wednesday night, Oct. 4 at 7:30 and Kalamazoo comes to town Friday at 8pm. Saturday, Oct. 6 the Komets travel to Kalamazoo for a preseason tuneup against the Wings at Wings Stadium at 7:30pm.
Players returning to the Komet fold this year are goaltender Kevin St. Pierre (4th year), wingers Jonathan Goodwin (3rd year) and David Hukalo (3rd year), center Kelly Miller (4th year), and defensemen Guy Dupuis (2nd UHL year, 10th overall), Mike Dombkiewicz (2nd year) and A.J. Bozoian (2nd year).
The 76-game season begins for the Komets on the road at Rockford Friday, Oct. 13. The Komet's 8th UHL campaign continues at Bloomington Saturday, Oct. 14. The Komets then open their 55th season of hockey in Fort Wayne Saturday, Oct. 21 against the Quad City Mallards at 7:30pm.
The Komets will play host this year to the UHL All-Star Classic Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007. It will be the second UHL All-Star Game played in Fort Wayne. The Komets also hosted the 2004 All-Star Game.
The UHL is divided into 2 divisions for 2006-07. The Komets are seeded in the Western Division along with Bloomington, Chicago, Quad City and Rockford. The Eastern Division includes Elmira, Flint, Kalamazoo, Muskegon and Port Huron.
Komet home games will continue to start under the same arrangement as last year. Monday-Thursday and Saturday games faceoff at 7:30pm. Friday games start a 8pm and Sunday games will begin at 5pm. The only exception is this year's traditional Komet New Year's Eve game starting at 7:30pm on Sunday, Dec. 31.

Komet Hockey on WOWO.....most of the Komet games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio AM 1190 this year with Bob Chase at the Fort Wayne microphone for his 54th consecutive season. Again this year, some games will be aired on WKJG/ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when conflicts occur. All games aired on radio will also be available via the internet at Comcast KometCast at www.komets.com .
