Fort Wayne Komets News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets announced today that Guy Dupuis has agreed to terms and will don the Komet orange for the 9th time in his career. The veteran defenseman will suit up in a Fort Wayne uniform and be a member of the Komets again as he starts his 16th season as a pro Friday, Oct. 21 when the Komets open the 2005-06 UHL campaign at Roanoke.
Dupuis, 35, first made his appearance in Fort Wayne skating 10 games of 1991-92 IHL season. He then went on to appear in the next 7 straight seasons with the Komets until the Fort Wayne club joined the UHL in 1999. Dupuis appeared in 509 IHL games as a Komet registering 156 assists and 204 points while accumulating 614 penalty minutes. During his Fort Wayne IHL stint the defenseman was a member of the Komet's 1992-93 Turner Cup Championship team.
Dupuis is a 3-time recipient of the Komet's Defenseman of the Year Award (94-95, 96-97 and 97-98) and is a 2-time recipient of the Komet's Bud Gallmeier Memorial Trophy for Community Service (97-98, 98-99). He was selected an IHL All-Star twice (97-98, 98-99) and was named Best Defensive Defensman and a starter for the 1997-98 All-Star Game. Dupuis was also voted honorable mention to the IHL post-season 1997-98 All-Star Team.
Dupuis made his UHL debut with Kalamazoo skating 75 games during the 2003-04 season and scored a career high 15 goals, 43 assists and 58 points. The Moncton, New Brunswick native holds the distinction of being voted a post-season First Team All-Star in two different leagues the past 2 years, receiving the honor while with Kalamazoo in the UHL in 2004 and last year for his performance with Bakersfield in the WCHL.
"Guy has excellent 2-way defensive skills. He's very solid defensively and will provide the Komets with strong offense," Komet vice president and general manager David Franke said. "We feel fortunate to have Guy on the club and we're looking forward to a great season from him and the team. With his offensive ability he'll see a lot of power play time."
Last season Dupuis led all Bakersfield defensemen with 11 goals, 34 assists and 45 points (4th highest point total for a defenseman in the ECHL last season) while directing 291 shots on goal, 2nd highest in the league.
The Komet pre-season roster increases to 13 players signed for the 2005-06 season including 9 forwards, 3 defensemen and 1 goaltender.
