Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

October 25, 2007 - The Knoxville Ice Bears have announced the 2007-2008 roster. After viewing close to fifty players at training camp, head coach Scott Hillman made many difficult decisions in selecting the final eighteen players. These players will take the ice against the Jacksonville Barracudas during the Ice Bears home opener on Friday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Coliseum.

Three familiar faces, Kevin Swider, Mike Craigen and Tim Vitek, will be returning in the forward position. Other players on the offensive side are Joel Henituik, Tim Morrison, Phil Cherneski, Bobby Joe Pelkey, Chris Affinati, Matt Pierce, Evan Boire and Luke Phillips. The Ice Bears picked up Luke Phillips after he was released late on Wednesday from the Huntsville Havoc. Many of the Ice Bear faithful will remember Phillips as one of the most notorious opponents from the ever-popular rivalry that still exists between the Ice Bears and the Havoc.

"The players and coaching staff are very excited about adding a veteran player like Phillips to our roster. Phillips will bring another level of depth to our line-up and will contribute with a regular shift and physical play," said head coach Scott Hillman on the acquisition of Luke Phillips.

Kevin Harris, Kristjan Jefkins, Art Mnatsakanov and Matt Withers will compose the defensive side of the Ice Bears team with only one returning player, Craig Geerlinks. Harris and Mnatsakanov are experienced players and will solidify the defense.

Ice Bears will have to learn three more new faces this season. Blair Robertson, Jordan Ramstead and Kirk Irving are competing for the two goaltending positions. Both Robertson and Ramstead are coming out of college to play professional hockey for the first time.

Season tickets and individual game tickets are available. All home games begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. For more information, please visit www.knoxvilleicebears.com or call (865) 525-PUCK.

Thank you for supporting the Ice Bears and keeping hockey in Knoxville!
