Knights Youngsters Get Taste of Triple-A
September 2, 2009 - International League (IL1)
Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - September 2, 2009 - As the season winds down the Charlotte Knights roster has been stripped of both top prospects and Triple-A veterans. In their place has come 11 new players all with less than two seasons of professional baseball experience.
That lack of experience was evident as the Knights were 9-0 losers the visiting Durham Bulls. The Knights gave up a pair of runs in the first inning and the scoring didn't stop there. The Bulls were later able to add solo home runs from Chris Richard and Desmond Jennings to help Durham coast to victory.
Durham starting pitcher Jason Cromer went six scoreless innings allowing just five hits in the game. He also walked two and struck out two. With the win Durham takes a one game lead in the IL South Division.
The Knights have lost two starting pitchers, a starting third baseman, a starting catcher and a relief pitcher to the major leagues. They also lost five others who will represent their country at the Baseball World Cup. That leaves the Charlotte roster with 11 new faces and 10 Triple-A rookies.
The Knights have just two home games remaining this season, both against the Durham Bulls. The two teams will play again tomorrow at 7:15 PM with RHP Matthew Long (NR, 0.00) will make the start for Charlotte. RHP Calvin Medlock (4-1, 2.76) will start for Durham.
The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For ticket or event information, please contact the Knights front office at (704) 357-8071 or (803) 548-8050 or visit our website at www.charlotteknights.com for more information.
