Knights Ride Out Win Over Tides

FORT MILL, S.C. - April 30, 2008 - Charlotte spotted Norfolk two runs early in the top of the 1st and then the Knights bats took over the rest of the game, in a 5-2 victory over the Tides. After Jerry Owens doubled to centerfield, Jeff Leifer grounded into a force out to bring Owens home with the Knights trailing 2-1. The very next inning, Knights 2B Chris Getz hit a solo home run-his second-to tie the game at 2-2. Owens then gave Charlotte the lead for good with his first home run of the season, a two-run blast in the 5th making it 4-2. Knights catcher Donny Lucy added another solo home run in the 7th for good measure.

Charlotte once again got another solid pitching performance from starter Wes Whisler (5-0, 1.26) who picked up his 5th win of the season in seven innings of work. With the win, Whisler becomes the first Charlotte Knights pitcher to win his first five starts. Mike MacDougal (S,1) picked up the save

Hayden Penn (1-2, 5.70) took the loss for the Tides.

The Knights begin an eight-game roadtrip to Buffalo and Scranton Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. Charlotte will return home on May 9.
