Knights Raise over $2,500 on Ladies in Pink Night

Tyrone Bronte scored shorthanded and the Knights earned a critical standings point in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Jamestown Rebels Friday night at Revolution Ice Centre.

The Knights partnered with Ladies in Pink, a cancer fundraising organization, to raise over $2,500 as Knights players wore speciality pink jerseys that were auctioned off following the game. Friday's game also saw the largest attendance for a home game this season.

Jamestown came to visit for the first of what will be four consecutive games between the Knights and Rebels to kick off 2019. Pink jerseys and noise in the stands helped motivate the Knights in a solid opening period. Tyrone Bronte had arguably his best game of the season, earning three different point blank chances, including a shorthanded goal just over three minutes into the game.

After Davis Pennington was assessed a holding minor, the Rebels set up in the zone and began moving the puck. This led to a shot from the point that was blocked from Bronte, who then got the puck and darted in on Jamestown goalie Ryan Keane for the breakaway to beat Keane low, scoring his 7th of the season. Bronte's four-on-five goal was just the second shorthanded tally this season for Wilkes-Barre. Adrian Danchenko owns the only other "SHG" from a goal back in October.

In the second, it was forward Nick Stuckless breaking through the Knights defense and deking out Knights goalie Zach Stejskal to tie the score. Later in the period, Bronte would get cut with a high stick from Sam Anzai, sending the Knights to a four minute power play.

Wilkes-Barre was unable to convert despite the four minute advantage, but the same could be said for Jamestown. In the third, it was Adrian Danchenko who was guilty of a double-minor infraction, sending the Rebels to four minutes of power play time. The Knights managed to box out the Rebels and limited shots to the perimeter, while also suppressing time in the attacking end as the defense managed several clears and won a number of the many board battles that ensued in Friday's tilt.

This led to overtime. Both teams managed quality chances in the extra session, with Alex Frye's right circle wrist shot being the best, however Stejskal was able to stand tall to deny Frye's bid as part of a 30 save effort from the University of Minnesota-Duluth product.

Just the second shootout of the season would be needed for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after both teams failed to score more than once after 65 minutes. Six shooters made attempts in the shootout, but only Auggie Moore would score as the third and final shooter for Jamestown to give the Rebels a win.

With the loss, Wilkes-Barre falls to 11-19-2, while Jamestown earns their 20th win of the season. The teams rematch Saturday afternoon in what will be the final game between the clubs at Revolution Ice Centre for the 2018-19 regular season.
