Knights Complete Plethora of Transactions Before New Year

Before the ball drops on 2019, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights made multiple transactions to put a bow on the previous year.

In trade news, the Knights welcome forward John Kaljian, who has been acquired from the Brookings Blizzard of the NAHL's Central Division.

Kaljian registered seven goals and nine points total across 20 games with the Blizzard this season. Prior to this year, the Michigan native finished his youth hockey career at Belle Tire U18, where he posted 17 goals last season at the AAA level in Detroit, MI.

"I am very excited to join the Knights," said Kaljian. "I'm getting to join a group of guys that are making a push for a playoff run and I hope to be a big part of that. I'm a big body who likes to get in on forechecks and play a 200 foot game and can create offense. I'm excited to bring that to the table and help win games."

A subsequent trade was made, sending Knights forward Brett Postula to the Leamington Flyers of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL). Postula scored three goals for

Wilkes-Barre and skated in 18 games. His two goal game on December 8th helped Wilkes-Barre beat the Northeast Generals,

4-0. On behalf of the entire Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights organization, we wish Brett the best of luck moving forward with Leamington.

Tenders

With Aaron Hamel being signed as the first Knights tender earlier in the year, the organization is proud to announce its' second and third signings in preparation for the 2019-2020 NAHL season.

First, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton brings in goaltender Alex Contey.

Contey will join the Knights following his tenure at Kent School, where the 18-year-old has played since 2015-16.

"Alex is regarded as one of the top goaltenders in New England Prep School Hockey this season, and rightfully so," said NAHL Knights assistant coach and director of scouting, Andrew Whiteside. "He moves extremely well for being a big goalie and makes the majority of his saves staying square to the puck. We look forward to adding Alex in what's become a deep goaltending tradition with the Knights over the last several seasons."

With a forward (Hamel) tendered and Contey joining the fray in net, the Knights then naturally pursued their first blue liner for next season, signing Caden Lewandowski.

Lewandowski comes to the Knights having already experienced the game of junior hockey at this level, as the Mars, PA resident played in a game for Wilkes-Barre earlier this season. Lewandowski didn't find his way on the scoring sheet, but his ability without the puck caught the eye, making him a perfect choice for the Knights.

"Caden is a long, rangy, and cerebral defenseman that has the ability to slow the game down when needed," said Whiteside. "He possesses a high hockey IQ, and uses an active stick and sound positioning to make life difficult for opposing players. We look forward to having Caden become part of the Knights NAHL organization."

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights return to action Friday, January 4th at home against the Jamestown Rebels.
