Knights Can't Hold Off Tides

FORT MILL, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights came out on the short end of a two run loss to the Norfolk Tides 4-2 at Knights Stadium. The Tides put together a three run sixth inning to take a lead they would never relinquish.

The Knights grabbed an early lead when Tyler Kuhn led off the bottom of the first with a triple and was then driven home on a double by Jim Gallagher. The Knights would add to their lead in the fourth inning when Gookie Dawkins doubled and later scored on a two-out RBI single from Eduardo Escobar.

The Tides would score on a solo home run from Robbie Widlansky in the fifth inning. In the sixth, the Tides were finally able to get to Knights pitcher Matt Zaleski with four hits in the inning. After tying the game on a RBI double from Brandon Snyder, the Tides would then add two more runs on a RBI hit from Carlos Rojas.

Norfolk's Steve Johnson earned his first win of the season improving to 1-5 while Zaleski falls to 4-6 on the year. Tides' closer Mark Worrell retired the side in order in the ninth to record his 15th save of the season.

The Knights and Tides will continue their series tomorrow with a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 6:15 PM. Pitchers Deunte Heath and Dylan Axelrod are scheduled to start for Charlotte. Norfolk is scheduled to start pitchers Rick VandenHurk and Chris George.
