NAHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights

Knights Beat Black Bears 2-1, Win Third Straight

December 1, 2018 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights News Release

Jacob Badal and Tyrone Bronte each scored late in the first period and from there the Knights held on for a 2-1 final Saturday night at Piney Orchard Ice Arena.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton sweeps the weekend from the Maryland Black Bears, improving their record to 9-15-1. The team is also now tied with Maryland for the fourth and final playoff seed in the NAHL East Division. Wilkes-Barre has also won three straight games for the first time since early October.

Saturday's game felt different than the Friday meeting between the clubs. There were far less goals and the game stayed close throughout.

Similar to Friday, Maryland found the back of the net early in the game, with Jonathan Young scoring his third of the season on Wilkes-Barre's Stejskal just over a minute in.

The Knights countered with chances on Maryland goalie Anthony Del Tufo, who got the call up from EHL Team Maryland. In his NAHL debut, Del Tufo was able to stop several chances, including some power play opportunities for the Knights.

Unfortunately for Del Tufo, being beat twice was all the Knights needed to escape Maryland with a pair of points.

Jacob Badal netted his ninth of the year late in the first, with an assist belonging to Anthony Mastromonica. Badal now has seven points in his last four games, including a goal in each. Mastromonica picked up his first point with the Knights after being acquired from the Johnstown Tomahawks earlier in the season.

Forward Tyrone Bronte found the net in back-to-back games, scoring what would be the game winning goal with 38 seconds to play in the first. Like Badal, Bronte scored in both games against the Black Bears on the weekend.

In the brief four game history between the teams, Bronte has scored five goals against the newest team in the East. The goal came on the power play. It was Bronte's sixth of the season, with Adrian Danchenko and Jordan Strand picking up assists.

A five game road trip for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton concludes next week with the last three games coming against the Northeast Generals. With the winning weekend, the Knights jump ahead of the Generals in the standings. Northeast is on a five game losing streak.
