January 8, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
London Knights News Release
The London Knights would like to announce that they have acquired defenceman Markus Phillips from the Guelph Storm in exchange for Hamilton's 2nd Round Selection in 2023, Barrie's 3rd Round Selection in 2021, and a 4th Round Selection 2021.
"We are pleased to welcome Markus to the London Knights organization," said Mark Hunter, General Manager for the London Knights. "Markus is a veteran player that brings a lot of experience to our blueline. He was a large part of the Storm's championship run last season and we believe he will be a strong addition to our team."
Phillips was originally selected 9th overall in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection by the Owen Sound Attack. The Port Perry, Ontario native is also a draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings, being selected in the 4th Round, 118th overall, in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Phillips was traded to the Guelph Storm last season and was a part of their OHL Championship team. So far this season, Phillips has played five games for the AHL's Ontario Reign and 20 games for the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL before being recently returned to the OHL. Phillips was also a member of Team Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships.
Phillips is in his final season in the Ontario Hockey League, playing this season as an over-age player.
