Knighthawks Sign Defenseman Bill Greer

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Knighthawk General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the team has signed defenseman Bill Greer, pending league approval. Greer was added to the active roster to replace injured defenseman Pat Cougevan. Cougevan had surgery today to repair a torn Achilles tendon in his left leg, which he suffered in the January 28th game against the Buffalo Bandits. He underwent successful surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.

Greer, 24, enters his fifth season in the National Lacrosse League. The Oshawa, Ontario, native has played in 57 career games and has recorded 21 goals, 41 assists and 415 loose balls, spending time in Columbus, Arizona and Anaheim.

Last season, he played in eight games with the Anaheim Storm and five with the Arizona Sting. With the Storm he recorded one goal, 10 assists and 38 loose balls. With the Sting, he notched two goals, four assists and 25 loose balls. On March 9th the Anaheim Storm acquired the defenseman and two conditional draft picks from Arizona for defenseman Chris Seller.

He was originally the Columbus Landsharks' first-round selection (ninth overall) in the 2001 NLL Draft. He best season with in 2002-03 with Columbus. That season, he played in 16 games and set career-highs in goals (10), assists (14), points (24) and loose balls (174). Greer also finished third in the NLL in loose balls, averaging nearly 11 per game.

This weekend, the Rochester Knighthawks play two games in two nights. The K-Hawks travel to play the Toronto Rock on February 10th at the Air Canada Centre at 7:30 p.m. The contest will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Channel 98. On Saturday, Rochester returns home to host the Arizona Sting at 7:35 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on the B2 Networks.
