Edmonton Rush News Release

EDMONTON, ALBERTA- The Edmonton Rush have yet to celebrate its first win this season. The competition this Saturday, February 11 at Rexall Place is rock solid. The Edmonton Rush takes on the 2005 NLL Champions Toronto Rock. The crossover divisional game is the only appearance that the Rock will have at Rexall Place this season. An earlier battle this past January took place at Air Canada Centre with the 2005 NLL Champions Toronto Rock prevailing against the new kids on the block for the Rock's first win of the season, 14-9.

With experience of playing the Rock already, acquiring a Rock player through a trade yesterday and the Rock playing a divisional game against Rochester Knighthawks the night before in Toronto may lean an advantage point toward the Edmonton Rush getting its first win of the season.

"The addition of former Rock player, Mat Giles yesterday to the line-up brings needed experience to our offense " states GM/Head Coach Paul Day "Last game against the Rock we lacked in results from our special teams, the improvement to special teams this week will gain us results on the scoreboard."

Mat Giles was acquired by the Rush trading a 2006 second round draft pick to the Toronto Rock.

"Mat will bring a positive influence to our younger players. He is familiar with several players and coaching staff already. He's a very good team guy." states GM/Head Coach Paul Day

Giles, 31, has played four games for the Toronto Rock this season for one goal, one assist, nine penalty minutes, seventeen shoots on net and thirteen loose balls. Giles looks forward to the opportunity to be a regular in the line-up. He wants to contribute to the team on and off the floor. He has several years of experience in the NLL with teams such as the Ottawa Rebel, Montreal Express, Columbus Landsharks, Albany Attack and with the Rochester Knighthawks. He was acquired by the Rock as a free agent in 2005. Giles won an Ontario Major Lacrosse series title with the Peterborough Lakers in 2005. In 2004, he won a Mann Cup with the Peterborough Lakers and played with the Rochester Knighthawks finishing seventh in scoring with 23 points (10 goals and 13 assists). Mat's season ended in Toronto when the Rock defeated them in the league semi-final.

George Canyon, Canadian Country Music Award winner, Fan-voted Cheez Whiz Fans' Choice Award, Single of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and SOCAN Song of the Year will perform at half time. Also, one of Canada's brightest new country stars, Lisa Hewitt will perform the anthem.

The fans attending the Rush game Saturday night will definitely have a winning experience. One lucky fan in attendance will win a RV trailer, courtesy of Western RV Country, approximate retail value: $20,000 (WAVE 25ft travel trailer by THOR California) and the Ultimate Rush Fan Contest continues sponsored by City TV.
