Rochester Knighthawks News Release

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Knighthawks Head Coach Paul Day has been named the coach of the National Lacrosse League's Eastern Division All-Star Team. Day will be behind the bench on Saturday, February 26th at the NLL All-Star Game in Calgary, which will be televised live on NBC at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.

The Knighthawks are coming off a 16-15 win over the Philadelphia Wings at The Blue Cross Arena on Saturday night. The Rochester win, along with the Toronto Rock win over Calgary, created a three-way tie for first place in the Eastern Division. With Buffalo, Toronto and Rochester all 4-2, head-to-head records among the three clubs was the deciding factor. Rochester won the tiebreaker because of its 2-0 record against Toronto. The Rock placed second, going 1-0 against Buffalo and 0-2 against the K-Hawks. Buffalo placed third with a 0-1 mark against the Rock.

Toronto Head Coach Terry Sanderson has been named the assistant coach for the East. Calgary Head Coach Chris Hall will lead the Western Division All-Stars in the 2005 All-Star Game. San Jose's Johnny Mourdian will serve as the assistant coach for the West.

The All-Star selection is the fourth such honor for the 36-year-old Day. His last appearance was in 2004, as he served as the assistant coach for the NLL Eastern Division All-Star team that won the NLL All-Star Game 19-15. He was named an assistant coach for the North Team at the 2002 NLL All-Star Game and was the head coach of the victorious NLL Canadian All-Star Team at the inaugural NLL All-Star Game in 1999.

Last season, Day was named the first recipient of the Les Bartley Trophy, as the National Lacrosse League Coach of the Year. He received the award after leading the injury-plagued Knighthawks to an 8-8 record and a second-place finish in the Eastern Division. The playoff appearance was the 10th straight in the 10-year history of the franchise.

The Peterborough, Ontario, native has a career 69-35 record and is the all-time leader in wins in NLL history. He also owns the distinction of being the longest tenured coach in the league, having served as the head coach of the Knighthawks since 1998. In seven seasons, he has guided Rochester to three appearances in the NLL Finals. He was rewarded in 2003 with a two-year deal as the team's head coach and assistant general manager.

Day has been with the K-Hawks since the team's inception, serving as the assistant coach from 1995-97. In '97, he was behind the bench for Rochester's Major Indoor Lacrosse League title.
