Rochester Knighthawks News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks open their 11th season of professional lacrosse against the National Lacrosse League's newest team from Minnesota. Rochester plays its NLL home and season opener on Saturday, January 1st at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.

The game is one of two during the opening night, as the defending NLL Champion Calgary Roughnecks travel to Colorado for a 7:00 p.m. (MT) faceoff.

Last season, the K-Hawks finished 8-8 and earned a tie for second place in the division with the Buffalo Bandits. The playoff berth was the team's 10th in the 10-year history of the franchise. Rochester's Paul Day was named NLL Coach of the Year for taking his team to the postseason without the services of superstar John Grant for most of the season.

The K-Hawks enter the 2004-05 season in the five-team East Division, along with Buffalo, Minnesota, Philadelphia and Toronto. Rochester will play each divisional opponent three times and the rest of the schedule will be based on the previous season's record. The West Division remains the same with franchises in Anaheim, Arizona, Calgary, Colorado, San Jose and Vancouver.

Rochester's schedule includes eight games against teams that advanced to the NLL Playoffs last season (three against Buffalo, three against Toronto and one each against Colorado and San Jose). The contest at San Jose on April 9th will be Rochester's first trip to the HP Pavilion at San Jose. Rochester also heads west to face Anaheim for a 10:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, January 22nd.

The K-Hawks open their season with a two-game homestand with games against Minnesota and Arizona. Rochester hosts the Arizona Sting on Saturday, January 15th at 7:35 p.m. The ‘Hawks also end the year at home with a 7:35 p.m. contest against the defending West Division champion Colorado Mammoth on Friday, April 15th.

The toughest weekend of the season could be in late January, as Rochester battles the Toronto Rock in a home-in-home series. The Knighthawks travel to the Air Canada Centre on Friday, January 28th for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff. The following night, the K-Hawks host the Rock at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The game marks the lone visit to Rochester by Toronto.

Rochester has two other back-to-back games in a single weekend. The next two-game in two nights stretch is February 18-19. The first night Rochester battles the Philadelphia Wings at 7:30 p.m. and the next evening the ‘Hawks meet another East Division rival, the Buffalo Bandits at 7:35 p.m. The final two-game weekend features a home-in-home series against Minnesota in late March. On Friday, March 25th, the Knighthawks travel to play an 8:30 p.m. game before returning home the following night for a 7:35 p.m. contest.
