Knighthawks' Fans Can Support Jim Kelly at Saturday's Game
March 28, 2014 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
On Saturday, Rochester Knighthawks fans can show their support for Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly. The Knighthawks have joined the Rochester RazorSharks basketball team in hopes of "boosting his spirits" as he undergoes treatment for oral cancer at New York's Lenox Hill Hospital.
At the Knighthawks game against the Edmonton Rush at The Blue Cross Arena, fans can sign a life-size get well card as they enter the arena or during the K-Hawks' postgame autograph session. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. The card will include the signatures of the entire Knighthawks team.
"First off, I want to send Jim Kelly and his family well-wishes as he fights his battle with cancer. I can remember as a little kid, Jim Kelly was one of the first sports stars I really looked up to," said Rochester native and Knighthawks forward Joe Walters. "What makes him so likeable are not the things he did on the field, but his efforts off the field."
The RazorSharks have invited local professional teams and fans to visit over a dozen local outlets for a chance to send Jim and the Kelly family a personal note. The Knighthawks game is the first of 13 stops for the life-size card. The goal is to have as many people as possible sign the card as it travels around Monroe County for the next week.
