Keogh's Goal-Scoring Spree Began against Rush
March 28, 2014 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The last time the Rochester Knighthawks played the Edmonton Rush, forward Stephen Keogh launched a torrid assault on the opposing defense.
And the assault continued. Since Rochester played the Rush on February 1st, Keogh has scored 16 of his 21 goals and contributed 18 of his 28 assists. That was eight games ago, and has Keogh on pace for 31 goals and 42 assists, both of which would be career numbers for him.
Prior to the Knighthawks' week 11 game against the Philadelphia Wings, Hasen spoke about the first three weeks of Keogh's offensive surge.
"Stevie's playing very, very well for us right now," he said. "The biggest thing about Stevie is he's constantly going hard to the net and he's creating space for his teammates, but at the same time, he's burying and capitalizing on his opportunities. It's real good for him and he's having a good year so far."
After that game against the Wings, in which Rochester won 13-8 and Keogh notched two goals and four assists, he addressed his play up to that point.
"I'm just trying to go hard every shift," said the third year NLL pro. "The ball's been falling for me the last couple of games. I'm just trying to do anything to help the team. We've got so many great players on offense, it could be anyone's night each night."
Keogh's success this season on the floor is what lacrosse fans have come to expect from the Toronto native and two-time NLL champion. In Major League Lacrosse, Keogh was a force for the Hamilton Nationals, scoring 49 goals and 10 assists in 22 games played through three seasons.
The root of his success in both the NLL and MLL can be traced east down the New York State Thruway less than two hours from The Blue Cross Arena. Keogh's play at the Carrier Dome for the Syracuse Orange is one of the reasons that led the Knighthawks to select him second overall in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft. He finished his career at Syracuse with 133 goals for ninth place on the Orange's all-time goals scoring list.
Keogh was also named the Big East Attackman of the Year in 2011. During that campaign, Notre Dame Fighting Irish Head Coach Kevin Corrigan spoke about what made Keogh so special after his four-goal performance in an 11-8 Syracuse victory.
"You have to account for him all the time," said Corrigan. "That's a pretty good player right there. He's the guy you have to account for as a unit."
The following season, Keogh took his skills to Rochester and he has been proving Corrigan's statement correct ever since.
