Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester)... The Rochester Knighthawks battled back but could not withstand a five-goal fourth quarter in an 11-8 loss to the Buffalo Bandits tonight at HSBC Arena. The Rochester battled back in the third quarter with three straight goals to tie the game at six and pulled within 8-7 in the fourth, but could never pull ahead of the Bandits. The rally was keyed by Troy Bonterre's fight against Brandon Francis early in the third quarter.
Mark Steenhuis (2+3) and Roger Vyse (2+3) each had five point nights for Buffalo, while Brett Bucktooth chipped in three goals and one assist. John Tavares recorded his 800th career assist on Bucktooth's first-quarter tally. Mike Thompson stopped 39 saves in the win.
Rochester got a six-point night from Jordan Hall (3+3) and a five-assist effort from Shawn Williams. Williams also reached a milestone as he tied John Grant Jr.'s all-time assist record with No. 461. He eclipsed the record in the third quarter. Matt Vinc made 42 saves in the loss.
The Knighthawks (5-5) fell into fourth place in the East Division. Meanwhile, Buffalo improved to 5-3 and stand alone in the third place. The game was the 40th regular-season meeting between the two clubs. Rochester still leads the series with an all-time record of 24-16. Buffalo heads to Boston for an afternoon game Sunday.
The Knighthawks will host the Philadelphia Wings on Saturday, March 26th at The Blue Cross Arena. The first 5,000 fans will receive a Knighthawks tote bag. The Knighthawks have partnered with Urology Associates of Rochester and will wear special jerseys on Men's Health Night. The jerseys will be raffled off, in-arena and online, to help fight prostate cancer. The 7:35 p.m. game will be broadcast live on The Zone 94.1 FM and www.thezone941.com.
