Visalia Rawhide News Release
VISALIA â Following a successful first full season of Visalia Oaks baseball on AM 1270 KJUG, a three-year agreement has been signed between the team and Westcoast Broadcasting. The pact will keep the Oaks on AM 1270 through at least the 2006 campaign.
For the first time in team history, all 140 regular season games were broadcast live in 2003. Each game was carried on AM 1270 KJUG and most could be heard at kjugam.com. All seven post season games were also heard on AM 1270 and on the Internet.
The same will hold true over each of the next three seasons.
Prior to the 2003 agreement with KJUG, the previous three seasons of Oaks baseball were carried on a different station. However, at no point was every game broadcast live. Before the first season-long agreement, games could be heard sporadically on various stations.
"A three year contract with Westcoast assures our fans that they will be able to hear every game on the same station for years to come," said Oaks General Manager Jennifer Whtieley. "We are thrilled to extend our relationship with KJUG. There is no doubt our games will be presented in a professional manner throughout the term of this agreement."
Each game broadcast will continue to include pre game and post game shows that are at least ten minutes in length.
"Anytime you can make long term plans to support something that's good for the community, you need to do it," explained Charlie Hoskins, the General Sales Manager at Westcoast Broadcasting. "KJUG and Westcoast Broadcasting have built 27 years worth of positive relations throughout this area. This is another great example."
AM 1270 broadcasts a locally produced Classic Hit Country format 24-hours a day when the Oaks are not on the air. Art Nugent hosts a live morning show from 5:30 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday. KJUG-AM also features Paul Harvey News and high school football game broadcasts.
The new contract matches the longest current radio deal in the California League. The Lancaster JetHawks also have an agreement that runs through the 2006 season.
It's Official: The first broadcast of the 2004 season will begin at 6:22 p.m. on Thursday, April 8 when the Oaks will host a 6:35 p.m. game against the San Jose Giants on Bank of the Sierra Opening Night at Recreation Park.
