Kite Debuts With Perfect Spring Outing

SIOUX FALLS, SD (March 4, 2009) - Former Sioux Falls Canaries Pitcher Josh Kite made his Major League Spring Training debut with a perfect outing on Wednesday afternoon. The Southpaw pitched in today's exhibition between the Detroit Tigers and Team Panama, pitching for Panama, and retiring the only batter that he faced.
In 2008, Kite pitched in 21 games for the Canaries, going 1-1 with one save and a 2.31 ERA, before getting picked up by the Tigers on July 25. Kite was assigned to the Double-A Erie SeaWolves for the remainder of the season. In nine games for Erie, Kite went 3-0 with two saves and a 0.75 ERA, allowing just one run in 12.0 innings pitched.
Team Panama defeated the Tigers by a score of 9-3, with the game ending when Kite induced a groundout off the bat of Jeff Larish. Larish played in 42 games for the Tigers in 2008, hitting .260 with two homers and 16 RBI.
The Canaries will open the 2009 American Association Season at the Birdcage with a May 14 game against the St. Paul Saints. The Season Premier will feature a Pre-Game Championship Ring Ceremony and a Post-Game Fireworks Display presented by the Canaries 2009 Season Sponsor, First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard.
