
Kitchener Wins Series Opener 6-3 Over Erie

Kitchener Rangers News Release
Kitchener took a 6-3 series-opening win over Erie, never trailing in the game. Luke Ellinas scored twice and added an assist while Filip Mešár recorded three assists to lead the Blueshirts in scoring. Matthew Sop, Carson Rehkopf, and Eduard Šalé each recorded two points as five Rangers recorded multipoint games in the win.

6:46 Luke Ellinas (1) - Matthew Sop, Simon Motew
Luke Ellinas scored the first goal of the series as he one-timed the puck glove side into the twine. Matthew Sop took possession in the neutral zone before deking around two Otters as he entered the zone. He found himself on a two-on-two with Luke Ellinas between the faceoff circles and sent him a hard pass along the ice. Ellinas took the opportunity to one-time the puck past Ethan Fraser to open the scoring.

10:16 Matthew Sop (1) - Eduard Šalé, Filip Mešár - PPG
Matthew Sop buried a loose puck in-tight to double the Rangers' lead early. Kitchener was awarded a power play as Alexis Daviault took a holding penalty at 9:29. On the powerplay Filip Mešár held the puck in the glove side corner and sent a pass cross ice to Eduard Šalé who was standing on top of the glove side faceoff circle. Šalé sent a puck along the ice towards the net that hit a skate before bouncing out loose in front of the net. Sop jumped on the puck and tucked it around the leg of Ethan Fraser, extending the lead.

Erie brought the game back within one on the power play as Dylan Edwards placed the puck over the shoulder of Jackson Parsons. Simon Motew was given an interference penalty at 13:21 leading to the Erie man advantage. Owain Johnston held the puck at the blueline and sent it down to Edwards who walked into the faceoff circle and ripped the shot over the blocker side shoulder of Jackson Parsons who was heavily screened.

16:07 Luke Ellinas (2) - Carson Rehkopf, Hunter Brzustewicz
Luke Ellinas scored his second of the game to re-establish the two-goal lead for the Rangers. Carson Rehkopf fired a seemingly harmless shot on goal that Ellinas deflected in five-hole while positioned right on top of the crease.
3rd Period
ER 2, KIT 3
0:35 Dylan Edwards (2) - Pano Fimis
Off an offensive zone draw Dylan Edwards brought the game back within one. Pano Fimis knocked the puck forward and Edwards jumped up to claim it. Edwards deked around Matthew Andonovski and found himself one-on-one with Jackson Parsons and wrapped it around his pads and into the net.
ER 2, KIT 4
4:09 Eduard Šalé (1) - Filip Mešár
Filip Mešár and Eduard Šalé connected to score a beautiful goal and answer Erie's quick goal. Mešár kept the puck in at the blueline and quickly turned to see Šalé alone down by the blocker side post of Ethan Fraser. Mešár rocketed a pass down to Šalé who tipped it in.

8:34 Sam Alfano (1) - Matthew, Schaefer, Nathan Sauder
Sam Alfano scored to bring Erie back within one. Alfano worked hard in the corner to win the puck battle and send it up to the point. Matthew Schaefer sent the puck on net through traffic, and it deflected off Alfano as he cut to the net.
ER 3, KIT 5
13:14 Max Dirracolo (1) - Olivier Savard, Luke Ellinas
Max Dirracolo added some insurance scoring from the point. Luke Ellinas shoveled the puck up to the point to Olivier Savard from the corner. Savard sent the puck along the blueline to Dirracolo who immediately sent it on net and scored bar down.

19:32 Carson Rehkopf (1) - Filip Mešár - PPG, ENG
Filip Mešár dished the puck to Carson Rehkopf at centre ice who sent it hard into the back of the net to seal the game.
