Kissimmee names interim coaches

KISSIMMEE, Fla. David Benson, who has served as quarterback coach for Kissimmee, has been named the interim head coach of the Kreatures, prior to their games at Miami on Saturday and Daytona Beach Monday in the National Indoor Football League, it was announced today by Anthony J. Pewonski, president of Centurion Sports Management.

Also being retained on an interim basis is Jason Archambeau, who was the Kreatures' special teams coordinator under the previous coaching regime.

A successor to former head coach Marquette Smith is being sought at this time and Mr. Pewonski envisions having a new head mentor on board by early next week.

Under Smith, the Kreatures went 2-7. With five games remaining, four of those on the road, the Kreatures will play their final home game of the season Saturday, June 18, against the Lakeland ThunderBolts.

Benson, who was graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, currently is a teacher and football coach at Kissimmee's Gateway High School.

He attended and played wide receiver at Winter Park High School from 1987 to 1991. He had a football scholarship at Morehouse College and played receiver from 1993 to 1997.

Benson has been at Gateway since 1999. His wife is Ricarta.

Archambeau graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale and was graduated from the University of Florida in 1989. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he has coached youth sports since 1990, including football from 1999 to the present.

He currently is a consultant with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security in Washington, D.C. He and his wife, Gidget, and two teenage sons, make their home in Kissimmee.
