Kinston Takes Game, Series from Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA - Jerad Head delivered a tie-breaking, two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to vault Kinston to a 6-3 win on Saturday night. With the win Kinston takes two of three from the Hillcats, winning their second series in a row. The K-Tribe has now won three of their last four series.

Kinston went up 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run home run by Nick Weglarz. It was the third home run of the season for Weglarz; all of them against Lynchburg. The Hillcats would storm back with a solo home run by Steve Lerud in the fourth inning, then two more solo shots by Jamie Romak and Kent Sakamoto in the sixth. With the score tied at three in the eighth inning, Adam Davis led off with an infield single. Head followed with a towering home run to left field. It was Head's third home run of the season. Weglarz scored later in the inning with an RBI single by Carlos Rivero.

Hector Rondon had a great start for Kinston, giving up just one earned run in five innings. Heath Taylor (2-2) picked up the win for Kinston, giving up one hit in two innings. Luis Perdomo notched his fifth save of the season, giving up one hit in the ninth inning. Perdomo has not given up an earned run in 17 innings of work this season.

The K-Tribe will spend a rare off day on the road on Sunday. Kinston will be in Frederick, Maryland getting set for a three game set against the Keys starting Monday night at 7pm. Carlton Smith will take the mound for Kinston on Monday.
