SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- With over 3,500 screaming kids in the stands, the Mississippi RiverKings (15-17-5) snapped a five-game losing streak and a five-game shootout losing streak in a 4-3 win over the Huntsville Havoc (14-17-4) on Belhaven University's Face Off Field Trip Tuesday morning.
The Havoc jumped out on board early when Stuart Stefan beat David Wilson low glove side to put the visitors ahead just under seven minutes into the action. But the 'Kings countered when Todd Hosmer beat Dan McWhinney to tie the game going into the first intermission.
The second period saw the same scoring as the first. Matt Whitehead's shot on the power play beat McWhinney low just 4:03 into the middle frame to put the 'Kings ahead. But the lead was short lived as Justin Fox beat Wilson to tie the game at two at the 14:51 mark.
In the third, the teams traded goals again. Just Fox tallied his second goal of the night at the 3:07 mark before Matt Whitehead's slap shot found the back of the net over the blocker of McWhinney to send the game into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the teams entered a shootout. Matt Harrington notched the lone goal of the shootout and David Wilson stopped all five shooters to secure the 4-3 win.
David Wilson (7-7-3) picked up the win after stopping 29 of 32 shots against. Dan McWhinney (13-12-4) stopped 17 of 20 shots against in the loss.
