Kings Score Late to Defeat Evansville

After a disappointing 5-4 loss in 10 innings on Sunday night to the Evansville Otters (26-14, the Kalamazoo Kings (16-24) got revenge on the top team in the eastern division at Bosse Field on Monday night with a 4-3 win. David McWatters went the distance for the Kings to earn his fourth win of the season, working 8 innings while surrendering 2 earned runs, 1 walk and striking out a team high 12 batters. Closer Greg Wiltshire came in to pitch in the 9th inning and earned his 5th save of the year.

The Kings got on the board first in the 2nd inning on a fielder's choice off the bat of first baseman Damon Lewis to score catcher Mat Kent who led off the inning with a single to centerfield. But the Otters countered in the bottom of the 2nd, scoring one run and added two more tallies in the bottom of the 5th. Kalamazoo scored 2 runs of their own in the 6th inning when designated hitter Tory Haven led off with a homerun to left field and pinch hitter Phil Archer scored on a single off the bat of right fielder Walt Simmons. The Kings capitalized on an Otters error in the top of the 8th to score the winning run.
