Manchester Monarchs News Release
LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have assigned forward Brayden Schenn to the Monarchs, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced.
Schenn is eligible to join Manchester after his junior team, the Saskatoon Blades, were eliminated from the Western Hockey League playoffs.
Schenn appeared in eight games for the Kings this season and recorded two assists and zero penalty minutes. He registered his first career NHL point with an assist Oct. 21 at Phoenix.
He also played in seven games with Monarchs earlier in the regular season (on a conditioning assignment), recording seven points (3-47) and four penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan was assigned back to his junior team, the Brandon Wheat Kings, on Dec. 3. The Wheat Kings traded Schenn to Saskatoon on Jan. 10. In 29 total regular season games split between Brandon and Saskatoon Schenn had 57 points (22-3557), 25 penalty minutes and a plus-19 rating. In 10 playoff games with Saskatoon he had 11 points (6-511) and 14 penalty minutes.
Internationally, Schenn starred for Team Canada at the 2010 World Junior Championships en route to earning his second straight silver medal at the prestigious tournament. Serving as Team Canada's alternate captain, Schenn recorded 18 points (8-1018), zero penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating in seven games and was named both Tournament MVP and to the All-Tournament Team. The 18 points tied a tournament record set by Dale McCourt in 1977 and his eight goals led Team Canada.
The Monarchs will battle the Binghamton Senators in game three of the 2011 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Semifinal Series B at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Sunday, April 17 at 5:05 p.m. Catch all the play-by-play action of Monarchs hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network WGAM 900/1250 AM and at www.manchestermonarchs.com.
