Green Bay Rockers News Release
Kenosha, WI.- The Kenosha Kingfish (33-15/10-2) led from the start and put the final touches on a 9-3 win with four innings in which they scored defeating the Bullfrogs (29-17/7-4) for the first time this season.
Kenosha scored first with three runs in the second inning against Connor Donovan (Lehigh). T.J. Nichting (UNC-Charlotte) blasted a two-run home run to right-center scoring Jason Scholl (Eastern Illinois). Grayson Byrd (LSU) followed up with a double well placed down the left-field line and was scored on a Zack Weigel (Seton Hall) sacrifice fly.
Green Bay made up two runs in the top of the third after Paul Jacobson singled to lead off, Ty Blankmeyer (St. John's) reached on an E-6 that allowed Jacobson to motor to third. Blankmeyer would score on a balk and the second tally was punched in on a base hit from Danny Rosenbaum (Louisville) making it 3-2 Kingfish mid-3rd.
Kenosha, extended their lead with a third inning run on a Jason Scholl (Eastern Illinois) RBI base hit and three more runs in the fourth via an Eric Filia (UCLA) walk with the bases loaded and another run on a walk as a third tally was plated on a wild pitch.
Leading now 7-2, the Kingfish continued to overwhelm the Frogs with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. A Zack Weigel (Seton Hall) hit to left was mishandled by Brian Celsi (California) and led to another run. And a Jeremy Vasquez (Florida) 6-3 groundout put the finishing touches on a nine run output.
Green Bay would answer with one late run in the sixth, but struggled to score runners, leaving seven stranded in the effort in which it would have to be an offensive horse race if they were to make a comeback.
The Bullfrogs loss came as both teams put up 11 hits and two errors. Green Bay has recorded 39 hits over their last three games. Both teams have hit well over .300 over their five games.
For the sixth time in seven games, a Bullfrogs starter could not break past five innings, this time it was starter Connor Donovan (Lehigh) who went 3IP/7R(7ER)/7H/2K-5BB. Adam Rude followed up with five walks in his middle-innings stint, as Green Bay pitchers posted 11 walks in total.
Three Bullfrogs hitters had two hits or more including Matt De La Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne), Ryan Donovan (Hofstra), and Danny Rosenbaum.
Connor Donovan suffered the loss (3-1), Brendon Allen picked up the win (2-2), and three effective shutout innings from Brett Shimanovsky (4 SV) closed the door.
This defeat snapped a five-game winning streak for the Bullfrogs who dropped to 29-17/7-4 and Kenosha improved their record to 33-15/10-2.
Garrett Harrison (LHP/St. Cloud State) will throw tomorrow for the Bullfrogs. He sports a 1.10ERA/40 2/3IP and has never pitched less than five innings through six starts.
