Kingfish Dispatch Loggers; Host Madison Tomorrow Night
August 11, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kenosha, Wis. - A six run explosion by the Kingfish offense in the bottom of the fifth inning broke Game 1 of the Northwoods League Divisional Playoffs wide open, pushing the Kingfish past the La Crosse Loggers 7-2 Monday night at Simmons Field. The Kingfish will host the Madison Mallards in Game 2 of the Divisional Playoffs tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m., with the winner advancing to the best-of-three Summer Collegiate World Series.
Pat McInerney opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. It stayed 1-0 Kingfish (49-24) until the fifth inning. Eric Filia got the scoring going in the inning with an infield RBI single to score John Brodner. Two batters later, McInerney was at it again, this time connecting for a two RBI double with the bases loaded. Micah Coffey followed right behind with a double of his own, scoring Jason Scholl and McInerney. A third consecutive double by the Kingfish, this time by T.J. Nichting, drove home Coffey and made it 7-0 Kingfish after five.
McInerney led the team with two hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs in the game. Coffey had two RBIs and one run scored. Filia and Nichting both had RBIs for the Kingfish as well.
That was all the offense Rico Garica needed. The Hawaii native was fabulous on the mound, throwing five and a third innings, striking out six Loggers along the way. Garcia picked up the win after only allowing one run on four hits. Garrett McKenzie and Adam Dressler worked the final four and two thirds innings to clinch the Kingfish victory.
Kevin Flemer took the loss for La Crosse (40-32), surrendering two runs on six hits in four and a third innings. Jordan Zimmerman was the lone offensive spark for La Crosse, hitting a solo home run in the top of the seventh.
