The Kenosha Kingfish defeated the Wausau Woodchucks 9-3 at Historic Simmons Field Thursday night.

With the win, Kenosha has now won seven of its last 10 contests. Wausau has now lost two straight games, but the team is also 7-3 in the last 10 games.

The Kingfish kicked off the scoring in the opening frame after a Parker Stinson two-run long ball over the right field wall. Stinson's fifth home run (the most on the team) sent Taylor Darden jogging around the bags as the home team got out to an early 2-0 lead.

The Woodchucks responded in the second frame with two runs of their own to tie the game up. Camden Janik belted a hard-hit single down the left field line to score Chase Hug for the visiting team's first run. Maurice Gomez then tied it all up with a single of his own that plated Ryan Sepede.

Kenosha reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning, as Drake Westcott plated Jay Beshears on an opposite field single to make it a 3-2 ball game.

The Kingfish extended their lead in the fifth frame, as they scored a pair of runs partially thanks to a pair of errors by the Woodchucks. Tayler Darden scored on an errant pick-off attempt, and Stinson came around to score on a groundout off the bat of Beshears to make the game 5-2.

Wausau chipped away at the lead in the top of the sixth, as Ben Abernathy scored on a throwing error by Josh Leslie to make the game 5-3. Kenosha enhanced their lead to 7-3 in the bottom half of the frame, as Brady Counsell scored on a groundout off of Josh Leslie's bat, and Gage Williams scored on a bunt-turned-error off the bat of Drake Herrera.

The Kingfish posted two more runs in the eighth to make it a 9-3 game. Westcott hit a solo shot (his first homer since opening day) in the eighth frame to add on an extra run to the Kingfish lead. Drake Herrera then hit a sacrifice fly to plate Bobby Atkinson.

Drake Westcott led Kenosha on offense with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with a home run and two RBIs.

Camden Janik paced the Woodchucks at the plate, as he went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Victor Loa (3-1) got his second win in a row after pitching five and two thirds of an inning while giving up two runs on three hits and striking out eight.

Jack Wenninger (2-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on five hits while fanning one hitter in four frames of work.

Both teams will go at it again on July 22 at Historic Simmons Field. The first pitch will be at 6:35 p.m.
