Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (12-12-3) return to the State Farm Arena Tuesday night after a four-game road trip. In the four-game road swing the Bees went a perfect 4-0-0 with a pair of victories over Laredo and two against then first-place Bossier-Shreveport. The victories helped to vault the Bees into fourth place in the Berry Conference.
The Bees started the trip with a 4-3 victory against Laredo in overtime. After a day off, the Bees would take two straight games against the Mudbugs by scores of 4-3 and 4-2 helping to knock the 'Bugs out of first place. The Bees finished the trip with a 5-3 victory over Laredo.
This week the Bees will face the Laredo Bucks again in a pair of games before the holiday break. The Bees host Laredo on Tuesday and travel to the LEA on Wednesday.
Rio Grande Valley will play three of their next four games at home before embarking on an eight game road swing. During the eight games away from the Hive the Bees will visit four different Berry Conference barns before returning to home on Jan. 21.
BEES NEED TO KNOW
. The Bees lead the Laredo Bucks nine points to eight in the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup which is awarded to the team with the most points against the other.
. The Killer Bees have now registered more than 200 franchise regular season victories in their eight seasons of CHL play. The 200th victory came against Bossier-Shreveport on Dec. 16.
. The 2010-11 CHL All-Star Ballots are out and the Bees have four nominees, forwards Aaron Lee and Tomas Klempa along with defeseman Darcy Campbell and goalie Juliano Pagliero.
. Four is a magic number When scoring four goals or more the Bees are 11-1 this season.
. Nick Sucharski joined the Bees the afternoon of their Nov. 26 tilt against Missouri. It was his first game as a pro and he scored in his first game, during his first shift, on his first touch of the puck.
. Zak McClellan, who was named captain at the start of the season, is one shorthanded goal from tying the all-time Killer Bees record of eight.
. Aaron Lee has joined elite company racking up over 100 career points with the Killer Bees, a feat reached by only seven previous players. Lee is the active Bees points leader. The Killer Bees record is 192 held by Bill Newson.
