Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - (Thursday, August 6, 2015) - The Richmond Kickers embark on a back-to-back road trip this weekend, traveling to the Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday, August 8 before taking on the Rochester Rhinos on Sunday, August 9. Both games will be streamed on YouTube.com/RichmondKickers live from Skyline Sports Complex at 7:00 p.m. and Sahlen's Stadium at 5:05 p.m., respectively.

The Kickers and the City Islanders meet for the second time in eight days to close out the two-game series in Harrisburg on Saturday. Last week, the Kickers edged the visitors 4-2 when George Davis IV scored in the 89th minute and Jason Yeisley added another in stoppage time to lift the Kickers to victory at City Stadium. In a back-and-forth contest, the Kickers twice took the lead through Fred Owusu Sekyere and Yeisley, but each time Craig Foster replied for the City Islanders. The game appeared headed for a draw, but a late free kick was redirected back in front of goal for Davis to bury from close range, and Yeisley capped the win as he finished a good counterattack chance in stoppage time.

With a rivalry spanning a decade, the Kickers hold an all-time series record of 16-4-7 over the City Islanders. The Kickers swept the three game regular season series last season, but were ousted from the Semifinal Round of the 2014 USL Playoffs at City Stadium when the City Islanders dramatically upended the host team, 3-2.

Less than 24 hours later, the Kickers will continue north to face the top-of-the-table Rhinos who lead the USL with a 12-1-7 record and 43 points. Starting the season with 19 games unbeaten, the Rhinos' historic streak was snapped last weekend when the Charlotte Independence handed them their first defeat of the 2015 campaign, becoming the first team to score multiple goals against Rochester in the process. The Rhinos took the lead when Grant Van De Casteele deflected home a corner kick, but Charlotte responded to take the lead before the break with back to back goals before adding a third six minutes into the second half. Christian Volesky pulled a goal back for the Rhinos but Charlotte quickly restored their two-goal advantage when they converted from the penalty spot to end Rochester's run and keep the Kickers' 22-game undefeated record from 2013 alive.

The Kickers and the Rhinos have faced off 25 times since 1999 with Rochester holding the all-time series record advantage of 9-7-9. The two clubs added a pair of home and home draws in 2014 and meet Sunday for the first time since a scoreless tie at Sahlen's Stadium on May 30, 2014. Swapping home field advantage to finish this season's two-game series, the Kickers host Rochester on Saturday, September 5 at City Stadium.
