Richmond Kickers News Release
ARLINGTON, Texas - The Richmond Kickers (7-4-2) fell on the road to North Texas SC (5-3-5) Saturday night at Globe Life Park. A pair of first half goals from Alex Bruce and Edwin Munjoma were enough for the home side to take the victory. Emiliano Terzaghi scored the lone goal for Richmond, converting from the penalty spot for his league-leading tenth goal of the season.
Two minutes into the match, Emiliano Terzaghi tried his luck from distance. After winning the ball right on the midfield line, Terzaghi made his run right up the middle of the pitch. He let a shot go from about 25 yards out, forcing Carlos Avilez to knock it down. He managed to grab it before Oalex Anderson could get to the rebound.
A strong defensive effort for the Kickers kept the home side off the board in the 12th minute. Gibran Rayo broke free on the right wing to get a cross into the box. The ball fell for Arturo Rodriguez. He tried to look for an opening as Ivan Magalhães slid in to deflect the ball up. Akira Fitzgerald came out to make the grab and get the ball up the field.
North Texas took the lead in the 23rd minute. Off a corner kick, Thomas Roberts worked his way into the box trying a shot from a tough angle.. Fitzgerald got his hand on the ball to push it away. Alex Bruce was there to put the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Two minutes into first half stoppage time, North Texas would make it 2-0. Nkosi Burgess put the ball into the path of Edwin Munjoma making a run up from his right back role. He took a quick touch up for Derek Waldeck, who just laid the ball off for Munjoma continuing his run. Munjoma then went for a shot that was out of the right of Fitzgerald for the second goal of the night for the home side.
A corner kick in the 51st minute nearly pulled a goal back for Richmond. Ryley Kraft served in the corner from the left side. Terzaghi got a head on the ball to redirect it to the back post. Kyle Venter tried to get to it but the ball was just a step ahead of him and out for a goal kick.
Emiliano Terzaghi scored his tenth goal of the season, converting a penalty kick in the 60th minute. Kyle Venter looked to play the ball long. The ball fell to Justin Che, who knocked the ball up in the air. Munjoma looked to head the ball back towards Avilez, as the ball popped back up in the air. Oalex Anderson moved in to challenge for the ball as Che came in from behind recklessly and forcing the referee to point to the spot. Terzaghi stepped up and fired his shot to the right of Avilez, sending the keeper the wrong way.
A chance came late for Richmond heading into stoppage time. Matt Bolduc took a long throw into the North Texas box. Ronaldo Damus was there to try and clear the ball away. Greg Boehme pounced on the loose ball going for a shot from about 30 yards out that skipped just inches wide of the goal.
The Kickers will then get a week to recover, returning to City Stadium next Saturday night to host South Georgia Tormenta FC, presented by Elephant Insurance. Gates open up at 5:30 p.m. and kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. Catch the match live on WTVR CBS 6.3 and streaming on ESPN+. There are a limited number of tickets remaining at RichmondKickers.com/Tickets.
