Richmond Kickers News Release

Richmond, VA – (Saturday, July 03, 2004) – The Richmond Kickers (9-4-3, 30 points) sought revenge from an earlier season loss to the Montreal Impact (8-2-4, 28 points) and Richmond forward, McColm Cephas found retribution with a goal in the second minute of overtime. Cephas and fellow rookie and former VCU star, Matthew Delicâte have proven to be a dangerous duo on the field at the professional level as Delicâte opened the scoring action tonight with his sixth professional goal.

Minute-By-Minute Highlights

30th minute: Mike Burke plays a corner kick high to the center of the field where Luzak is waiting. He jumps high and heads the ball on goal, but it travels just over the crossbar.

30th minute: Tony Williams makes a bad pass in the Kickers' penalty box in an attempted clearance, and Biello is there to fire on goal. Pascale is quick on his feet and easily catches the chest-high shot.

44th minute: A high cross from 40 yards out from Vincello finds Sebrango in the penalty box. Sebrango is able to get a good position over the Kickers defender and heads the ball straight on goal. Yet again Pascale is quick and leaps into the air, becoming horizontal and punching the ball to his right to go out for a corner.

50th minute: GOAL: Richmond: 1 Montreal: 0 Mike Burke receives the ball on the Kickers right flank and plays a short cross into the box. It reaches Delicate, who, with his back to the goal, deflects the ball far post with his head. Sutton has already come off of his line, and as the ball is just out of his reach, it slowly bounces into the back post for the goal.

54th minute: Grande plays a ball from 22 yards out straight ahead into the penalty box. Sebrango is able to shield the Kickers' defense and powerfully volleys as he turns on goal. The ball sneaks just over the crossbar, however, and goes out for the goal kick.

63rd minute: Burke again finds himself with space and time on the right side of the field. This time he crosses far post. The Montreal defense and the majority of the Kickers are near post, and the cross passes just over them. The ball takes one bounce far post, when Hayes comes flying in. He side volleys one touch towards his far post, back towards the Kickers' attacking right flank. Sutton dives to get a touch on the ball, but it slips just past him as well as the far post and goes out for the corner.

69th minute: GOAL: Richmond: 1 Montreal: 1 Biello plays the ball to Sebrango who is on the Impact right attacking flank. Sebrango brings the ball in towards the goal just inside the end line. He fires straight on to the near post, where Pascale is waiting. The shot is too powerful for Pascale, and it deflects off of his left side, and into the goal.

74th minute: Robeiro, with a burst of speed and open space, attacks down the center of the field. Once arriving at the edge of the penalty box, he passes to his right with the outside of his boot where Biello is there waiting. He takes one touch to set up, and fires straight on to goal. The shot is right at Pascale and he easily catches it.

92nd minute: GOAL: Richmond: 2 Montreal: 1 Hayes plays a lobbed ball into the penalty box. There is a miscommunication between an Impact defender and Sutton, and the ball bounces in the box. Cephas is there, takes one touch, and rips in into the goal for the goal and the win.
