Richmond, VA â (Thursday, May 06, 2004) â The Richmond Kickers (2-1-2, 8 points) secured their first home victory of the season tonight, when they defeated the Toronto Lynx (1-2-0, 3 points) by a margin of 3-1. Forward Kevin Jeffrey had a goal and an assist as the Kickers increase their undefeated streak to four games.
Minute-By-Minute Highlights
5th minute: GOAL: Kickers: 1 Toronto: 0; After the Kickers defense obtains possession of the ball in the center of the field, it is played wide to Tony Williams. Williams takes one touch, looks forward to Jeffrey who is with the last defender, and lobs a ball about 50 yards in the air to land behind the defense. Jeffrey runs onto this ball and is off for a one-v-one against the keeper Hancock. Jeffrey dribbles to just inside the 18 and slips a ball past Hancock for the goal.
8th minute: Darren Baxter slides in to intercept a forward pass by the Kickers defense near the penalty box. Baxter takes a few touches to get past the defense on the left side of the box and crosses it across the face of the goal. Jamie Dobbs flies in from the right flank and gets a touch to shoot near post, but Pascale is there to smolder it for the save.
24th minute: GOAL: Kickers: 2 Toronto: 0; Richie Williams plays a ball up to Kevin Jeffrey who has his back to the goal. Jeffrey turns and begins going to his right. Toronto has all his options blocked in that direction, so he pulls the ball back and looks to his left. Williams in the meantime is making an overlapping run, so Jeffrey slides the ball through on the floor. Williams gets past the keeper and shoots the ball about 12 yards out, sliding past Hancock.
34th minute: the ball is played wide to Hayes on the right flank, he takes it down a few yards but is unable to get the cross of with his right foot. He cuts the ball back and plays it across with his left foot. Jeffrey comes flying in and stretches out to get his foot on the ball, but it goes high for a goal kick.
45th minute: Matthew Delicate chases down a Toronto defender and strips him of the ball in near Toronto's penalty box. Delicate turns, takes a few touches to set up, and rips a waist-high shot but it goes wide.
67th minute: GOAL: Richmond: 2 Toronto: 1; John Barry Nusum receives the ball about 40 yards out on the left flank and slips past the defenders. He takes a few touched towards goal and rips one high, far post for the goal.
74th minute: Matthew Delicate fires one in the penalty box, but it ricochets off the crossbar.
85th minute: GOAL: Richmond: 3 Toronto: 1; Kickers' Matthew Delicate is able to slip another ball by the Toronto defense, who was caught flat on the front of the penalty box, and McColm Cephas ran onto the ball, took a touch or two to his right, and hammered the ball about chest high into the right side of the goal.
