April 11, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Chicago Rush News Release
The Chicago Rush has activated Khreem Smith from its exempt list and added the defensive lineman to the team's active roster, the Rush announced today.
"I'm glad to be back," said Smith. "The last time I was here we won a championship ring, and I am looking forward to trying to get another one this season."
A rookie with the Rush during the team's ArenaBowl championship season in 2006, Smith (6-4, 270, Oklahoma State), recorded 22.5 tackles, eight sacks, six forced fumbles, two passes broken up and one blocked kick.. His eight sacks are the third-highest single-season total in Rush history, behind John Moyer's 10 sacks in 2004 and nine in 2003.
Smith led the AFL in forced fumbles in 2006 and ranked second in the league in sacks, earning Second Team All-Arena and All-Rookie team honors.
Immediately after the ArenaBowl in June 2006, Smith signed with the Minnesota Vikings. He spent the first 15 games of the 2006 season on the Vikings practice squad, before being elevated to the 53-man roster for the team's final game of the season.
Smith played with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2007, spending the first 12 games on the team's practice squad before being moved to the 53-man roster for the final four games of the season. He was released by Kansas City earlier this year.
