Frederick Keys News Release

Against the stingiest pitcher in the Carolina League Brad Meyers, the Keys loaded the bases with one out in the first inning but failed to score only to see its future chances few and far between in a 4-1 Independence Day loss at Pfitzner Stadium.

With the bases loaded after back-to-back hits from 1B Brandon Waring and LF Robbie Widlansky, Keys 2B Ryan Adam popped out in the infield on a 1-0 breaking ball and RF Billy Rowell grounded out to end the potential rally.

Potomac would break in front with a two-run home run from DH Sean Rooney down the line over the short porch in right field. Rooney's fly ball homer was his sixth of the season giving Potomac a 2-0 third inning lead.

Keys starter Rick Zagone labored late in his evening allowing four runs on eight hits in 4 and 2/3rd innings. The Nationals plated two runs on three hits in the fifth inning.

Frederick got great work from its bullpen as Eddie Gamboa and Brian Parker combined for 3 and 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball but Frederick could not muster a rally.

Pfitzner Stadium was packed to the gills with an announced crowd of 10,879 in attendance. That is the largest crowd the Keys have encountered in a road game in the 21-year history of the franchise.

Having dropped two straight, the Keys look for a series split as they send LHP Zach Britton to the mound for the series finale. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 12:45 p.m. with The UPS Store Pre-Game Show on The Keys Baseball Network.

Frederick will return home for a seven-game series Friday, July 10th at 7:00 p.m. taking on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free Keys Baseball Card Set presented by Extra Innings of Frederick. Fireworks will follow the contest.
