Keys Lose Game 3 to Cannons, 7-3

The Frederick Keys (9-16) dropped the 3rd game in their 4-game series with the Potomac Cannons, 7-3, in front of 4,357 fans at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, VA, on Saturday, May 3. The loss snaps the Keys 3-game winning streak over the Cannons and breaks the Cannons 6-game losing streak.

The Keys jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning on a 2 RBI base hit by first baseman Mike Huggins. The Cannons (9-18) answered back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run on a RBI base hit by designated hitter Jeff Bannon. Left fielder Heath Honeycutt followed Bannon by drilling a 2-0 pitch over the right field wall for a three-run home run, his first of the season.

Keys Designated hitter Patrick O'Sullivan, transferred to Frederick from Class A Delmarva today, hit a RBI double in the 3rd inning to pull the Keys within 1 run at 4-3. The Keys offense could not muster anymore runs the rest of the way, however.

Keys starting right-handed pitcher Tim Corcoran (2-1) went 4.2 innings in his first start of the season, giving up 6 runs off of 6 hits and 1 home run. Corcoran was given the loss, his first of the season. Cannons lefty Clayton Andrews (2-1) went 5 innings and gave up 3 runs off of 8 hits to get the victory, his second of the season.

The Cannons added insurance runs in the 5th inning, scoring 2 runs off of a sacrifice fly by shortstop Bryan Anderson and a RBI base hit by center fielder Chris Denorfia. Potomac finished the scoring by adding a run in the 8th inning on a base hit by Honeycutt, who finished the night with 4 RBI on the night.

The Keys will play the final game of their 4-game series with the Cannons on Sunday, May 4, at 1:35 p.m. Starting for the Keys will be right-handed pitcher Richard Bartlett (1-2, 9.92) while the Cannons will send right-handed pitcher Travis Thompson (1-1, 3.47) to the hill. Following Sunday's game, the Keys will travel back to Frederick for a three-game series with the Kinston Indians before leaving for a eight-game road trip starting Thursday, May 8.
