Frederick Keys News Release
Myrtle Beach, SC -- The Frederick Keys came back from the All-Star Break strong, winning their second consecutive game by defeating the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 6-5 on a wet night in South Carolina.
Despite a two-hour and 13-minute rain delay and a two-run deficit the Keys offense came back to score six runs on six hits, including a two-run home run by Tripper Johnson.
The Pelicans offense got started against Luis Ramirez in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kala Kaaihue hit a two-run home run over the left field wall.
Jarod Rine would help cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth, doubling off James Parr to drive in Johnson. In the top of the sixth the Keys' offense was aided by back-to-back singles from Jonathan Tucker and Pete Maestrales. Nolan Reimold walked to load the bases before Ralph Roberts came on for Parr. Mario Delgado followed with a single to drive in Tucker. Jason Fransz drew a walk, allowing Maestrales to score, Sandy Madera's sacrifice fly drove in Reimold and then Tripper Johnson hit the two-run home run that proved to be the winning runs.
Myrtle Beach scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, but it would not be enough as the Keys came out of the All-Star Break on a winning note.
Ramirez (4-6) earned the victory, allowing two runs on three hits over 6.0 innings, while striking out seven and walking one. James Hoey earned the save allowing one hit and striking out two in a scoreless inning.
Parr (3-5) took the loss allowing four runs, three earned on three hits over 5.0 innings.
The Keys will play game two of their three game series with the Pelicans on Friday at 7:02 PM, as RHP Matt Bruback will make his second start for the Keys against RHP Luis Atilano.
