Keys Announce 2012 Schedule

Frederick, MD - The Frederick Keys, Advanced Class-A Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, have set its schedule for the 2012 season. Frederick will start its campaign at home for the first time since 2008 as the Keys host the Salem Red Sox (Boston Red Sox). Frederick's 70-game home slate will come to a close on Labor Day, September 3rd with against the Carolina Mudcats (Cleveland Indians).

"Coming off another championship season and with a new ten-year lease we could not be more excited to get ready for our 2012 season," Keys General Manager Dave Ziedelis said. "We will continue to bring affordable family fun to our region and can't wait to open our gates for another season of Keys baseball."

The Keys claimed the 2011 Carolina League Championship, its third title in the last seven seasons. Frederick has been in the top-three in attendance in the Carolina league in all 23 years of its existence. Year in and year out the Carolina League outdraws the California and Florida State Leagues, the other two leagues at its level.

The Carolina League will also see a change in 2012. The Kinston Indians are no more as the team has moved to Zebulon, NC to play as the Carolina Mudcats. The Mudcats will be the Cleveland Indians affiliate in the Carolina League. That means the Keys have the longest affiliation with its parent club in the circuit. Frederick has been an Orioles affiliate since the franchise's beginning in 1989.

The last time the Keys opened at home was April 4, 2008 when both C Matt Wieters and RHP Jake Arrieta made their professional debut for Frederick. The Keys defeated Lynchburg 7-3 as Arrieta struck out eight batters in four innings and Wieters homered twice in the win.
